Hacking passwords and mining the data is common these days. A home network is always prone to security risks. There are certain tips which can prevent your home network from attackers. New users of personal computers may be easy victims of hacking when they discover easy wireless computing and learn how to upgrade their PCs. While doing so, they may expose their data to hackers. It is important for a new user to learn how to keep his home network secure from the outside attacks. If you have a home network, you have to make it secure so that your data is well protected. Otherwise hackers may take advantage and your data may be stolen. They can steal just about any information from your computer. They may put a virus in your PC secretly. However, you can make your network secure by following simple steps. There are certain tips which can keep your PC and home network secure. Let us have a look at them. These are the possible techniques which you can use to make the home network secure.

1. The first thing you can do is to change the factory default username and password of your network installation. Factory default username and password are known to the attackers. So the default setting is always prone to hacking. At least the default password should be changed as soon as the network is installed. There are some suggestions while changing username and passwords. A password should not be the name of the user, his date of birth, his address etc. because they are tried by the hackers and can be broken. The password should be changed every month or fortnightly. The password should include special characters. The password should include alpha-numerical characters and should not include dictionary words.

2. Another well-known prevention is to change factory default SSID on router or access point. The default SSID can be known easily by hackers even after SSID broadcasting has been disabled. It can be easily hacked only by knowing the model of your wireless router. So, you should assign such an SSID that is not found out easily. So, unique SSID should be assigned to the router.

3. SSID broad cast should be disabled. Mostly routers broadcast SSID by default to all wireless devices. It can be detected by others living in your vicinity. The hackers can gain access to your network easily. WPA2 should be enabled if you want to broadcast your SSID. MAC address filtering should be enabled.

4. WPA 2 encryption should be enabled to improve home network security because WPA 2 is the strongest encryption. If your system does not have this, obtain this from the manufacturer's website.

5. Remote router administration should be disabled. Otherwise, hackers may find and hack your router. They may use brute force password which can crack your security.

6. MAC address filtering should be enabled. MAC filtering allows the computer to join the specific network only. MAC enabling enhances the security of home network. To enable the MAC address filtering requires a list of MAC addresses which allow joining the network. More information about MAC address can be found on the internet.
